The flag of ‘The Grand Union’ is a flag that was adopted on December 3, 1775. It grew out of a colonial desire to have a flag apparat from the flag of Great Britain. The flag contains 13 stripes of alternating red and white along the fly, and the canton is emblazoned with the an early version of the United Kingdom’s flag.

The flag of ‘The Grand Union’ is a flag that was adopted on December 3, 1775. It grew out of a colonial desire to have a flag apparat from the flag of Great Britain. The flag contains 13 stripes of alternating red and white along the fly, and the canton is emblazoned with the an early version of the United Kingdom’s flag.
It is also known as the flag of the Continental Congress, Colonial Ensign (used to identify merchant ships originating from the colonies in America. It was also flown on campaign by General George Washington, who later became the first President of the United States. It was hoisted on December 3, 1775 by John Paul Jones, a commanding presence on the sea, and one of the architects of any costal defense or trade defense that would be mounted by the colonies.
The flag was relinquished and replace by a new flag in 1777.
Available in two formats, standard cell tag, 2” x 3.5” or original proportion. The original is two inches but is some what shorter in the on the ‘X’ axis. In the photos, the red star field is standard cell tag and the yellow is the traditional proportion.
